Choosing the Perfect Wedding Gown
May 7th, 2010
Choosing a wedding gown as a wedding planner is a very important process, one that a bride gets incredibly excited about. Preparing your wedding and finding a wedding dress go hand in hand in their enjoyment. No matter if you have an idea of the type of wedding dress that you want or if your wedding planner knows your style, the gown you choose will be something you remember for years down the road. By having this at the forefront of your thoughts, it’s the section of your wedding that your wedding planner and you don’t want to sit around until the day before your wedding to plan. With that in mind, here are some tips, straight from the mind of a wedding planner that will help you start your search!
You should expect to wait 4-6 months to receive your wedding dress after you order it. So start looking for the perfect gown EARLY! You should purchase your gown early so that you’ll have plenty of time to get fitted and then have your wedding planner take your dress in for alterations before the day of your wedding. Don’t under-estimate how long it might take to find the gown for you. Each fitting and alteration will take ample amounts of time.
When it comes to your gown budget, make sure that you take into consideration things such as the headpiece/veil, shoes, gloves, jewelry, undergarments, and other accessories.
Gowns don’t look the same on the hangar as they do on you! So try on several gowns. You might find that a gorgeous gown on the hanger might not flatter your figure as you’d hoped. It’s very, very important that you try it on before buying it!
Ask your wedding planner or store staff to help you out with any questions you may have. They are there to help, and more than likely, they’ve sold hundreds of wedding dresses to women like you. When speaking with your planner, it will give them a good idea what style you’re searching for.
Don’t make the mistake of ordering a gown that is “only one size smaller” than your usual size. By ordering the right size, your usual size, you can always alter it if you lose weight before the big day.
When your gown arrives in the store, take your wedding planner with you to check it out at the store. Do a quick fitting with the dress on before buying it.
Make sure you check out all of the angles when you try the dress on. If there’s something you do not like, be sure to mention it the bridal store staff or your wedding planner. More than likely, they will be able to alter and fix the problem.
With all of this in mind, I wish you the best of luck in your search for the perfect wedding gown…YOUR perfect gown!
