Springtime Is For Flowers, Birds And Gift Giving
Feb 20th, 2008
Every February I look for the first robin. It’s a spring ritual of mine. And with the return of the robins, I know that spring flowers and green lushness of trees leafed out cannot be far behind. I love spring - I think most people do. And maybe it’s the happiness of making it through another harsh winter as our ancestors did that causes us to look for any reason for a celebration of life. We plan weddings and we see young adults graduate and many many more events.
Parties are fantastic ways to celebrate life an maybe it’s this joy that caused the tradition of gift giving to develop. I’m not sure how it all started but gifting is expected on most of these events.
It may seem like a drag to have to bring a gift to every occasion but if you are thoughtful you can think of gifts that won’t break the bank. And often times I just look out my window for a little inspiration.
When buying for young adults, think of their lifestyle and then try to work in a theme such as the great outdoors. For example, young adults love to bar-b-que and getting them a bar-b-que set or a lively nature themed tablecloth would be most welcome.
I have a son who has recently graduated from college. He loves to golf so for him, the perfect graduation gift with an outdoor theme is something for his passion for the sport. While he’d love the newest driver, even a nice towel for his bag would be a special treat. As a young man, when he’s outdoors he always brings his ipod so getting him a nice ipod holder to discretely hold the ipod would be much appreciated.
I have a young son who can’t wait for school to get out each spring. Then he spends many days idling by the pool. During the late spring and early summer we seem to have endless birthday parties to go to and finding a great gift can be a challenge. But some of the old standbys still work like a real leather basketball or football. Of course there are the video games and I admit I break down sometimes even if that has no outdoor use.
Spring is that wonderful time of year when it’s not too hot or too cold and the world is alive with color and new life. May your spring gift giving be inspired by this wonderful time of year.
